What is Arginine or L-Arginine and its functions?

Arginine or L-Arginine is an Amino Acid that is needed for our body to make proteins. It is combined with other Amino Acids to form a protein.

Our body does not supply Amino Acids. They are derived from the foods we eat such as red meat, poultry, fish, and dairy products. Food supplements are also available to supply the needed Arginine in our body and convert into proteins.

What happens when we eat food high in L-Arginine?

When we eat the foods high in L-arginine, the digestive system will breakdown the food and the L-Arginine released will be converted into a molecule called nitric oxide. Nitric oxide causes blood vessels to open wider for improved blood flow. L-arginine also stimulates the release of growth hormone, insulin, and other substances in the body.
